Twenty-two year-old Sydney athlete Joel Milburn clocked an Olympic A-qualifying performance of 45.19 seconds in taking victory in the 400m. Milburn ran strongly down the home straight to soundly defeat Athens relay silver medallist Clinton Hill, who ran 45.88 seconds.
