Varying your workout – the key to success!

Your body works in a similar fashion to your mind. Imagine reading a book for the first time and taking in all that information, the mind is engaged and concentrated to what it is reading as it is all new. Read the book again and you might pick up things that you missed the first time, but read it over, and over and over you will find it boring. Little information is sinking in because your brain knows what is coming.

The body works in a similar fashion. Muscles get used to the way they are trained and what works in the first few weeks will gradually become less and less effective as the muscles become use to the routine.

Therefore it is important to vary your workout to get results. This could be anything from varying a hand grip or weight, to getting a whole new program. Why not try doing a week of group fitness classes, then a week in the gym, then a week of body weight training. The results will be great, your motivation will stay high and you will get a lot more variation to your workout.

Programmes are free with your membership and can be upgraded at any time. If you want some new ideas on how to vary your workout speak to one of our friendly staff in the gym who can write you a new programme or advise you on the best way to train for results.


Capital Works

You may have seen all the construction activity surrounding the Centre’s Café area over recent weeks. We’re pleased to announce our Café will be opening on Monday 31 March. The Café will operate between 7:00am – 7:30pm Monday – Friday and 8:00am – 6:00m on weekends.

Serving a range of delicious, healthy meals aimed at complimenting your fitness regime, the menu will include fresh fruit smoothies and juices, hot breakfast and lunch options along with lots of tasty salads, wraps and snacks!

Following feedback received from you, our Members, hairdryers and iron/ironing boards will be installed in the level 1 changerooms over the coming weeks.

Welcome to the March edition of U@MQ Active e-newsletter.

Our monthly e-newsletter aims to keep you up to date on everything going on at Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre.

It is hard to believe that we are already a quarter of the way through the year. For those of you who have started the year with all guns blazing, the upcoming Easter long weekend is the perfect time for you to relax and unwind.

From everyone at Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre, we would like to wish you a very happy and enjoyable Easter break and look forward to seeing you back at the Centre working extra hard to burn off all those chocolate calories.

Macquarie University Swim School – Holiday Program

During the month of April we will be running our intensive Swim School Holiday Program. In this program children attend a class every day for one week. Lessons will be available between 2pm and 3pm during the following week:

Monday 14 April 2008 – Friday 18 April 2008

Lessons will be available for all levels from Sea Dragon through to Dolphin. Holiday programs traditionally produce good results for all children, especially those that are either new to a level or those that are close to moving up to the next level.

Our normal pre school and school age programs will also be running during this time.

Members Only Entry

A friendly reminder to all of our members to make use of the Members Only entry we have recently opened. The entry provides members with a streamlined, fast track service to the Centre’s facilities, ensuring you make your time at the Centre.

The operating hours are between 3.30pm and 8.30pm Monday to Thursdays.

N3 Parking

A number of modifications to parking entitlements will bring the N3 car park (adjacent to the Centre) in line with all other parking areas managed by Macquarie University.

The N3 car park will operate as a Pay and Display car park between the hours of 6:00am – 8:00pm Monday - Sunday. All current Member parking permits will expire as of 30 June 2008.

Members of Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre will receive two hours free parking in the N3 car park, by taking a two hour free ticket from the ticketing machine located in the centre of the car park.


New Booking Procedures – A Friendly Reminder

On March 1 2008, Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre implemented a new court booking procedure to ensure fair and equitable opportunities for all members.

We will accept court bookings within 48 hours of the desired time.

Members who wish to book court time in advance are welcome to contact the Centre Sports Administrator to book.

Discounted facility hire fees for Members apply.


Group Fitness Timetable Changes

A revised Group Fitness timetable will operate over the Easter holiday period. The following classes will be available to members and visitors:

Saturday 22 March

9.00am – Yoga
9.00am – Fatburner
10.00am – Pump
10.30am – Yoga
4.00pm – Shallow Aqua
5.15pm – Revmaster

Sunday 23 March

10.00am – Yoga
4.00pm – Fatburner
5.15pm Pilates

Monday 24 March

9.00am – Pump
10.00am – Yoga
4.00pm - Revmaster

* Boot Camp will not operate on Friday 21 March or Monday 24 March.
