Conception Day 2008
The day was hot, and that's not just describing the weather! With Grinspoon and Butterfingers
headlining the acts at six massive entertainment arenas, the stage
was set for a phenomenal
experience. Those who were
there will not soon forget the
sight and sound of 10,000 people having an awesome time!
The photos here capture some of
that excitement, and will surely
whet your appetite for more of the same next year, at Conception Day's 40th anniversary event!
Why there's a Conception Day
It's a tradition celebrating the opening
of the University. Since 1969 Macquarie University students have made it their own special day, getting together en masse to kick back
and have a good time.
It’s an all-day festival of live music, bands, DJs, rides and fabulous food, with heaps for the culture vulture too.
In short, a day which proves that
“all work and no play” is not
the Macquarie way!
Conception Day has made its way onto Sydney's festival calendar too.
Every year crowds of up to
10,000 are drawn by a line-up of
great acts including internationally-renowned performing artists.
This year’s lineup was one of the
most impressive yet , but watch this
space for next year's 40th anniversary line-up!

Sustainability on
Conception Day
We took deliberate steps to make Conception Day a more sustainable event. Initiatives undertaken this year included:
-
An extensive recycling program
-
Food and drinks served only in recyclable containers
-
Packaging minimised
-
Officials and volunteers on duty issued with refillable water bottles
-
Waste assessment conducted to better inform our waste management systems for next year's event
-
Carbon credits purchased to offset emissions caused by stage entertainment and rides
We are monitoring data from
this year's event carefully and are committed towards implementing
a more sustainable event in 2009.
