2008 Henley Tour
Macquarie Rowing is making history as it puts the 2008 Henley Royal Regatta in the sights of a handful of aspiring young students who are eager to affirm Macquarie's claim of truly being "Australia's Innovative University".
Macquarie will be sending the first ever Australian crew to race the Prince Albert Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta as well as the first Macquarie rowing team to race internationally
In mid-2006 the Macquarie rowing shed was burned to the ground by arsonists. This was a terrible shock and whole rowing program took a hard blow. This international tour is one of the key steps that the rowing program is taking to become established as an elite standard club. In 2007 the program recently moved from just Intervarsity rowing to a fully fledged registered Australian rowing club, Macquarie University Rowing is poised for this next step.
Henley Royal Regatta was established as a single afternoon race in 1839, and has since become internationally renowned as the largest racing regatta in the world. Held on the 27th weekend each year, it is now an established event on the European sporting and social calendars. During the course of its history, the Regatta has often been honoured by visits of members of the Royal Family, with this patronage allowing it to be called Henley Royal Regatta.
Boat shed starts construction this month. It is likely that the shed will be open in mid October for the start of the summer rowing season . Click here to see the plans for the shed.
Summer Rowing Program
The summer rowing program (SRP) is an extension of the University Rowing program with the inclusion of non university students. This program starts at the end of the University season, September and runs through until March. This program is made up of developing athletes from the High Performance Unit (HPU) and students who wish to compete but not at a high level of competition.
University Rowing Progam
The University Rowing Program is a key area aimed specifically at university students during the winter months. University Rowing plays a three part role in the structure of the program, development and performance.
High Performance Unit
The High Performance Unit is designed to support and develop our scholarship holders with their goals as well as developing other members to reach the same level or higher of commitment.
